Midigama
Direction: Left and Right | Type: Point Break | Level : All Surfers | Bottom: reef (coral, sharp rocks etc..)Click to Enlarge

Easy take-off, long rides, few barrels. Beautiful landscape. The best surf is found between
Ahangama and Midigama. When you go south from Galle, the first surfspot is called the
Rock as the peak is in front of a big rock sticking out of the sea. The break is in front of
Kabalana hotel, easy to find. It has a good long left and normally a steep, short right.
Breaks up to 7ft. Incoming tide provides the best surf.

Mirissa

Lovely set up, more than just surf. Good food, accomodation, nice people.
Best break sits 50m off-shore, infront of a dozen guest-houses, usually full with surfers.
Crowds from dawn till dusk. Water temp is ultra-warm. Consistantly 2-3 foot,
maybe the odd 4-5 foot day.

Arugam bay (A-Bay) - the main point
Direction: Right | Type: point-break | Level : All Surfers | Bottom: reef (coral, sharp rocks etc..) with sandClick to Enlarge

This is the main break at Arugam Bay. The point is a long right-hand point/reef break that breaks at the headland in front of Arugam Bay. It is also the best swell magnet of all the points and you can almost always guarantee that the The Point will be a couple of feet bigger than any of the other breaks. It breaks from anything between 2 and 6 feet but tends to max out after 6 foot. Due to its location it is also
attracts the biggest crowd but seems to be handle it as it often sections in a few spots. On a good day it provides a clean wall that will barrel in the sections and give you a 400-meter ride right through to the inside. When you ride all the way through the best option is to paddle a few yards to the beach and walk back out to the entry point
(booties are advisable as the reef starts from ankle depth). There is also café run by some of the locals that provides a grant vantage point to watch the action from and take in stock up on energy for the next session.

Pottuvil
Direction: Right | Type: point-break | Level : experienced surfers | Bottom: SandyClick to Enlarge

Pottivul is a great little wave that peels mechanically over sand banks around a Byron/Pass-like point.
It breaks very close to the beach as it winds its way down the point and it is easy to step off, almost
on to the dry sand, at the end of the wave and run back out to the take off. Great for 20-30 second
nose rides.Very fast and even barreling wave in the mid section. The wave breaks right along the shore,
so just get out and walk back. Hide your gear well around the rock, locals (invisible) like to borrow you
things. If you're lucky enough to check on of those epic sunsets you'll remember it for life.

Peanut Farm
Direction: Right | Type: point-break | Level : all surfers | Bottom: SandyClick to Enlarge

Fun, easy-to-surf right point. What sets it apart from the rest of Sri Lanka's right,
sand-bottom pointbreaks is that because it's nearly impossible to find without a
guide or a helicopter (and there ain't no helicopters), despite being relatively
close to Arugam Bay, it's seldom crowded. This makes it a good place to go
hook into a few 300-meter long rights without having to battle three dozen
former Israeli commandos who've never heard the expression "surf etiquette."

Crocodile Rock (Elephant Rock)
Direction: Right | Type: point-break | Level : all surfers | Bottom: SandyClick to Enlarge

1 hour ride to the south will leave you with a twenty minute walk along another beautiful beach to reach Crocodile Rock. I don't know if the place is named after one of the rocks on the point or some of the large salt water crocs that live in the lagoon 50 meters from the break but it is a beautiful spot for a day surf mission. This is the smallest of the three points, and you need a medium to large swell f or Croc Rock to work at all. When the point is 6 foot then Croc Rock will be 3 foot. It is however a perfect wave for the beginner/intermediate or long board enthusiastic. A sucky take-off section over sand leads on to a long wall that breaks right down the point or about 400 meters much like inside Pottuvil point. Again bring lots of water and make sure that your surf point guide is there to pick you up after a session and a long walk back in the searing tropical sun.

Okanda
Direction: Right | Type: point-break | Level : all surfers | Bottom: SandyClick to Enlarge

An amazing and often empty right point that breaks off a large rock headland and runs at near perfect pace for up to 300 meters along well-formed sand banks. What's even greater about this spot is that because of how remote it is, few surfers end up here. Though it doesn't get as much swell as A Bay, would you rather surf 6-foot waves with 100 guys or five-foot waves with two?

You will definitely want us to find this place, as it's a minimum two-hour drive along winding dirt paths from Arugam Bay. It's also a good bet on smaller days. With such good banks, it's as fun at three feet as it is at six.
